I hired the team at Finest Finish to undertake re-skimming the entirety of my 1960’s condo, walls & ceilings. Dylan, was very professional, and explained the entire process to me clearly, and in great detail. The drywaller’s who showed up to do the were phenomenal, very hard working, punctual, and respectful. I appreciated they brought their dustless sanding machine to protect my home during the process. I am very grateful to have come across this company, who truly delivers on what they say! 10/10 will recommend to all my friends and family!
Both metal and wood studs have their advantages and disadvantages, making metal studs better in some situations and wood in others. In residential construction, using metal and wood in combination works well. For example, using wood for load bearing walls or door frames or to attach electrical boxes between studs and metal for the rest.
Metal stud framing is more durable than wood
Metal studs are made of a light-gauge galvanized steel which will resist corrosion. Steel does not absorb moisture and will retain its shape over time. Wood, on the other hand, is prone to dry rot, warping, cracking, swelling and insect damage.
Metal stud framing is fire resistant and secure
Metal isn’t flammable, but wood is. However, metal does conduct heat, and could ignite adjacent materials. It can also buckle or become damaged with extreme heat. Still, it is better than wood in a fire. Metal studs are better able to withstand other calamities as well. To resist high winds, floods, earthquakes or explosions, metal studs are the better choice.
Metal stud framing is environmentally-friendly
Metal studs are completely recyclable. Steel can be melted down and reformed without losing any of its beneficial properties. The ability to recycle wood, on the other hand, is more limited. In the construction phase, metal studs are virtually waste-free since they are manufactured with a uniform size and quality, whereas there is quite a bit of variability and waste with wood. As well, trees take a long time to grow and our current rate of use is outstripping the rate at which trees grow.
Metal stud framing is good for problem areas or creative architecture
Since galvanized metal framing resists water and fire damage, it is great for bathrooms, basements and other moisture-prone areas. However, metal studs are less strong than wood, and are not good for load-bearing walls.
With recent advancements in technology, metal studs can come in different shapes and sizes, opening the possibilities for unique projects.
Metal stud framing is cost effective
Even with the rising cost of lumber, wood studs are still cheaper than metal studs. However, when all the costs are included, not just the cost of an individual stud, steel is a comparable option.
Metal studs are less energy efficient than wood
Steel conducts cold and heat, whereas wood is insulating. With steel framing, more insulation should be used in exterior walls. As well, metal framing tends to produce condensation and vapor barriers will need to be used to prevent damaging the drywall.
Metal studs can impair acoustics
As the sound waves reflect off the hard surfaces, they can create loud, echoing noises.
Working with metal studs is more difficult than working with wood. Cutting steel requires a miter saw and leaves sharp edges. Installing drywall on top of metal studs is tricky, taking much practice to master. We’ve had years of experience, ensuring your metal stud framing is done efficiently and correctly. Whether you need a whole house framed or just a wall, we will always do what it takes to make sure you get the safest, cleanest, most beautiful results.

As a Property Manager I need Quality work done in a timely manner. They have always Exceeded my expectations!Posted on Keilan DobishTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hard to find this level of skill and reliability. These guys deliver, sharp, precise, and dependable. If you want it done right, this is where you goPosted on Caitlyn JoppTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had to remove my previous positive review (which was requested prematurely) after experiencing the full scope of working with Finest Finish. In the end, they did not complete the work in my condo to the agreed-upon level of satisfaction, including what they promise on their website. The painting portion of the job was wrapped up while I was away for work, and despite being asked to pay in full, I was not given the opportunity to review or approve the results after their “final walkthrough.” They promised everything would be perfect and that promise was not delivered on. When I returned, the workmanship and results were far below the professional standards I was promised: surfaces were uneven, trim and paint were peeling and chipping, and my bathroom ceiling and parts of my bedroom were left untouched and unfinished, despite being billed as complete. Throughout the project, they ignored my requested timeline and took what I consider unnecessary measures to push the job forward at a pace I was not comfortable with. This included cutting holes in drywall for “testing,” leaving fingernail marks in ceilings and walls, and removing paint from areas I had requested be left untouched. Multiple issues and deficiencies also arose during the scope of work, including property damage, yet neither Colten nor Dylan ever took accountability. Their attempted “fixes” created new problems, and I was billed to correct issues that were entirely the result of their own errors. Additionally, it has been made clear that no promised warranty will be honoured for any work completed moving forward. This was one of the main reasons they were hired in the first place. This job dragged on for seven weeks, during which my living space was filled with their tools and supplies, making normal use of my home difficult and extremely stressful, something neither of them seemed to care about despite my repeated concerns. Their final communications to me were extremely condescending and solely focused on deflecting blame. They relied on irrelevant “industry standards” and inapplicable laws, such as the law of diminishing returns (which doesn’t apply to hourly work), to justify overbilling and excuse their mistakes. Rather than taking accountability, they consistently shifted blame and responsibility, ultimately making it clear they were unwilling to address the issues they caused. I expect they may respond to this review claiming my standards were “too high” or my expectations “unrealistic,” but the communication and photo evidence I have tell the full story. There is no justification for overbilling, leaving work unfinished, or delivering substandard results after being paid $15,000 — a very generous price for an 800 sq. ft. condo. By the end of the job, I felt like I was walking on eggshells to ensure tasks were completed, and it’s clear my trust and kindness were completely taken advantage of. I want to make it clear that I have tried my best to resolve this issue privately: • I raised these concerns directly with Colten and Dylan multiple times. • I provided photo evidence documenting the incomplete and damaged work. • I requested a fair refund to address the unresolved issues with no response. I hope my experience serves as a caution to others considering working with Finest FinishPosted on Breanne HTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I hired Finest finish, for some drywall finishing and painting, and honestly, everything turned out great. The lines are clean, the walls look smooth, and they left the place tidy when they completed our project. Communication was easy throughout, I always felt like I knew what was going on. It’s clear they actually care about doing a good job, which I really appreciated. We definitely recommend Dylan and Colten, and look forward to using their services again in the future.Posted on Liam PerisonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was my second time hiring Finest Finish for work on our property in Broadmead, and once again they delivered excellent results. They handled a fairly complex skylight drywall repair with ease, and the final outcome looked better than before the damage. Everything was done professionally, on time, and with clear communication throughout the process. Quality, consistency, and reliability , that’s what you get with these guys. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring them back again. Thanks team , Liam & CiannaPosted on Scott Van AchteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A company that truly lives up to its name: FINEST FINISH!!! Dylan and Colton were professional, punctual, personable, and a delight to have in our home. Due to some complications (not of their doing) some other trades had to be involved, and Dylan and. Colton made sure they worked seamlessly with them, to ensure schedules were maintained. Their workmanship is exemplary, and they use the finest products. So great to witness the pride they have in their work. We continue to marvel at what a difference it made to our condo to have them repaint it! Well worth the cost. We give Dylan and Colton 10/10 recommendation!Posted on Geoff RiceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Where to start?? Colten and Dylan are two of the best tradespeople I have worked with in a very long time. They drywalled over stucco ceilings in 3 rooms. They were incredibly detailed in their estimate and description of the work to be done. They thought of every detail, including the hardness and protection of our fir floors. Aside from their professionalism, they were on time with the entire project and their team was great to deal with. I have seen some other comments saying they are expensive, but worth it. We found they were competitively priced compared to other quotes and provided better service.Showing our latest reviews
