Frequently Asked Questions

We receive questions from our clientele, often regarding similar topics. See below for answers to these questions. You may also call or email us for further inquiry.

Q: What is your experience/background in this line of work?

Both owners are experienced in a variety of finishing services. Dylan had been working under his father in Vancouver, starting in early high school. They specialized in high-end custom work, primarily in West Vancouver and White Rock. They took on a range of projects, including: framing, finish carpentry, and drywall repair/skimming. Colten developed his ability in painting after high school, then moved on to learning aspects of additional finishing trades. All of Finest Finish’s workers are journeyman-level in their area of expertise.

Q: Are you licensed and insured? Do you have workers compensation?

Finest Finish meets all business licensing requirements with the City of Victoria. We are insured with $3,000,000 Commercial General Liability (CGL), that covers third party bodily injury, property damage, personal injury, tenants legal liability, etc. We also have workers compensation coverage under WorkSafeBC. It’s important that your contractor is able to cover the costs associated with any accidents that occur while working on your project. If a potential contractor is uninsured, walk away. You’ll assume liability for their safety, and that’s a position you don’t want to be in. It’s also important to remember that being licensed is not the same as being insured. General liability insurance protects your home from damage or negligence of the contractor, his employees, and any sub-contractors brought onto your property. Resist the temptation to take your contractor at their word; it’s unfortunate, but the reward is not worth the risk. Protect your liability and get peace of mind by requesting a copy of your contractor’s insurance certificate and be sure to check the expiration dates. You can also call the issuing authority and verify the insurance is legitimate.

Q: Tell me about your post-service support?

We do a walk-through with the clients before leaving for the day, to update on the progression of tasks completed and what the plan is moving forward. We also do a walk-through at the end of the job to make sure that any questions are addressed. We also offer a 3 year warranty that guarantees the longevity of the finished product.

Q: What should I look for when reviewing a company, especially on Google?

It is important to be cautious when assessing the reviews that a company has. Google reviews are the most common medium for companies to showcase their feedback. If a company has less than a 5 star average, it’s crucial to discover why that is. Take your time, reading each testimonial and not just the most recent ones. It’s best to sort from lowest to highest to get more of a general consensus on what experiences people have had with the company. Many companies also pay people to leave fake reviews, to increase their count. This is why it’s important to ask the contractor to provide you with a list of past client contacts, as it’s the most effective way to assess the quality and professionalism of the company in question.
